Mary Valley
I lived in Amamoor which is in the Mary Valley in the South East QLD region of Australia. Amamoor is a small rural town nestled amongst rolling green hills, pineapple, avocado and fruit farms. It is also the gateway to the annual music Muster situated in the State Forest which attracts large crowds from all over. Saturday mornings sees the Valley Rattler steam train arrive with tourists, stopping in Amamoor for morning tea, and a browse through the local market.
I found myself out walking along quite roads, often sighting a platypus in the creek, horses kicking and running in fields, turtles, snakes and children jumping off a fallen tree trunk into the water below.
I loved early mornings, walking down the dusty dirt road to where the train tracks ran. Crossing the train bridge from a height which made me dizzy, over the flowing creek beneath me.
Other pretty little villages in the Mary Valley include Dagun, Kandanga, Imbil and Kenilworth. You can make a trip to Maleny through the valley, it takes just over an hour and is such a scenic route.
